    A train averaging 50 mph leaves San Francisco at 1 P.M. for Los Angeles 440 miles away. At the same time a second train leaves Los Angeles headed for San Francisco on the same track and traveling at an average rate of 60 mph. At what time does the accident occur?

    Let me see.

    San Francisco to Los Angeles:

    rate = 50 mph

    time = x

    Los Angeles to San Francisco:

    rate = 60 mph

    time = x

    Set Up:

    80x + 60x = 440

    Yes?

    Ok. A typo can lead to failure when taking a test.
