    Can someone please help me with this problem? I only have one attempt on the question left and I'm lost as to what to do. I used the linearization formula: L(x, y, z) = f(x_0, y_0) + f_x(x, y)(x - x_0) + f_y(x, y)(y - y_0)

I'm not familiar with this problem. Since no one has responded, what does the linearization formula produce, and what class is this for? What I mean is - what branch of mathematics includes this kind of problem?
